Becca's Adventures in Africa!!

Whoops, I guess I haven’t posted in quite a while. I’ve been so so busy with work… But we finally put out the 26-pg report on the redesign last night, so things are slightly less crazy today. I just got back from lunch at this eerily diner-esque place in town that I had never been to before! It was called Hotel Capstone [many restaurants are called hotels here, despite not having rooms or other things usually associated with hotels..] and had cushioned booths, the fresh passion juice was served in ice cream sundae-ish glasses, and there was even another mzungu there. [It’s very unusual to see other wazungu in Busia who we don’t know!] Of course, I got samaki [whole fish] and ugali for lunch.. so that’s not quite like an American diner :)

Hopefully this will be a good week - my close friend who was on vacation is getting back tomorrow (with the last half of this season of Lost - we’re going to have a marathon!) and then I am leaving for the coast on Friday night! I’ll take the night bus to Nairobi [I wouldn’t do that alone, but another EC is going too], meet up with other people to take the bus to Mombasa on Sat morning, and then we have a sea view cottage for two nights. I’ll probably stay until Weds and then head back to Nairobi to do some work before coming back to Busia. I’m pretty excited for seafood.. and beach.. and relaxation.

In exactly one month, I fly out! It’s crazy. Tonight is the last night for one EC who has been here for ~16 months [I’ll be really sad to have him leave!], but after that - I am the next person to leave! Absurd.
