Thanksgiving 2!

Ina kuja! [It’s coming!]

Last weekend, I went to Kisumu with a bunch of my coworkers for the main purpose of attending a Bhangra concert by Jassi Sidhu. It was pretty expensive - about $20 for an advance ticket, including a big, delicious Indian buffet dinner - and most of the Indians in Western seemed to be there. Anyway, we had a ton of fun - I tried to remember some of my bhangra moves from summer lessons at MIT. After that we went out to Octopus club, which is apparently sketchy-ish but I always have a lot of fun there - Eric and I request songs from the DJ upstairs [our favorites are ‘Beep Beep,’ ‘Do Me,’ ‘Lovin Lovin,’ and a few others that we forget the names of but attempt to sing or describe [“the other song by P-Squared” got us just what we were thinking of..]], and then he proceeds to give us shout-outs for the rest of the night. This is for Eric and Rebecca!!!! Later, we met the owner when trying to figure out if we had won the dance contest [sadly, no, but he bought us a drink instead], and our last stop of the night was the bhangra after party, which was pretty quiet by the time we got there. All in all, it was a very late, very fun night, but I ended up in the room at Sooper Guest House with the worst/noisiest location, which resulted in very little sleep.

Anyway.. Thanksgiving, right! On Sunday, we had breakfast/lunch at Green Garden, then went to Nakumatt Mega City, which is the big supermarket outside of town. And, next to the Thai paste section, what did I find but CRANBERRY SAUCE. This is kind of a big deal: when we had our epic, awesome, very successful Thanksgiving dinner in November, the cranberry sauce was literally the only thing that we were missing [from a typical Turkey Day meal]. So, it is now necessary that we have Thanksgiving 2, obviously. We’re still deciding on a date, but it will either be in 1.5 weeks or 3.5. Not only will we have cranberry sauce, but we now have a real oven to cook the turkey in, a house big enough to fit everyone, and a can of pumpkin pie filling. I can’t wait!
